"My incredible experience watching Mazz paint a Misty River painting"
Nobody knew what to expect as Mazz started with a blank white masonite board and mixed paints together. (Click on the photo to enlarge it and then click the top right corner to proceed to the next)
Without any outline or sketch, Mazz very quickly painted in fast frenzied strokes with a hog bristle brush. He combined several different strokes from criss cross to horizontal and other directions.
he did something else which we later realized were distant trees painted into the background
working closer, he made vertical strokes which we later realized became water reflections. (it's hard to tell what it is until all the pieces fit together - almost at once).
he used a knife in the background, which we later realized were; perfectly exectuted cypress & palm trees
he made a quick down stroke and said 'this will be spanish moss' and then painted and said this will be 'thick forested trees to reflect the beauty of Old Florida"
he used a palette knife and said "this will add another dimension to the sky" Nobody knew what he was talking about until it all came together
he painted in water reflections
The painting is coming together but we can't tell what it is yet
Painting in free style, Mazz put in a tree trunk with a knife and proceeded to create a palm tree
painting in the tree trunk with a knife
the start of the palm tree
in fast mode, he created palm fronds and hundreds of details with a knife
we noticed that he used every part of the knife - not only the flat surface, but the tip, the edges and the corners. He alternated between them in a certain finesse - all in the same stroke!
He painted in oak trees and sculptured each one with the palette knife, sometimes using 2 knives at once!
he painted in the birds with a palette knife
"He put in birds like he magically reached into the wilderness and placed them there"
then he cut in legs for the bird so they were standing in the water
the water reflections came next with one fast squigilly knife stroke
swiftly he painted in the foreground with knife made foilage & cattails
you can tell he was working hard as his hands progressively became covered in paint
a bird in flight was added with the knife in 2 quick strokes!
when this painting came togther it was something to behold, like the birth of a natural beauty
"Oh my God, Oh my'
"I can't believe it" "I don't know what to say"
'I'm speechless and overwhelmed as I saw this tranform before our eyes into a thing of beauty"
